On Monday, October 5, 2026, students in INEN 6301: Advanced Robotics were back in the XRAI Lab for their next UR10e lab session. A week earlier the first race used robot motion only. This time the robot had to work with the rest of the cell through inputs and outputs (I/O).
The challenge
Each group programmed the UR10e, the conveyor, and the cell’s presence sensors to run one loop:
- Sensor 1 detects the cube.
- The robot program starts the conveyor and carries the cube to the Sensor 3 position, where the conveyor stops.
- The UR10e picks the cube up and returns it to Sensor 1.
The robot has to read the sensor inputs and switch the conveyor output in the right order. Every handoff between the conveyor and the robot depends on the signal timing.
The winners
Group 2 completed the task with the fastest cycle. Pictured in the front row is Sajita Shrestha. In the back row, from right to left: Aminat Ayankoya, Vivian Latona, Rocktim Shil, and Adnan Shafi.
