On December 7, 2025, students in INEN-5301: Collaborative Robot Operations and Programming presented their final projects. Fall 2025 was the second time the course was offered — first launched in Fall 2024 — and this cohort had 10 students enrolled, 7 of whom earned an A.
The course
INEN-5301 is a hands-on introduction to programming and operating collaborative
robots. Students work directly on a Universal Robots UR10 cobot and move
from basic jogging and waypoint teaching to sensor-driven automation: digital
and analog I/O, tool outputs, IF/ELSE decision logic, variable speed control,
conveyor integration, and coordinate frames (base, tool, and user frames).
Motion planning is covered through MoveJ and MoveL commands and
waypoint-based trajectory design. The emphasis throughout is on turning
robotics concepts into working automation routines.
The individual projects
Each student completed two individual projects under the instructor’s supervision:
- Task 1 — Pick-and-Place operation. Programming the UR10 for automated material handling with conveyor integration and sensor feedback, using IF/ELSE logic, digital I/O, tool outputs, and waypoint programming to build a sensor-based automated cycle.
- Task 2 — Writing Task with L-ID. Programming the robot to write
alphanumeric sequences using the TCP and a user frame, with
MoveJ/MoveLcommands and waypoint-based trajectory planning.

The presentation
